Copag is a better bang-for-the-buck overall Jul 31, 2011

I have several sets of plastic playing cards (Kem, Copag, Da Vinci, Modiano, etc). Whenever someone asks me which brand of plastic cards they should buy, I tell them to buy Copag. All plastic cards have their pros and cons, but IMHO Copag offers an overall great product.
QUALITY: All four of the brands of plastic cards mentioned above, make great quality plastic cards. Although I should mention that I have a thirty year old set of Kem's. But the last three sets of Kem's I bought makes me seriously wonder about Kem's quality control these days (that's a whole other review).
VARIETY: When it comes to choices of sizes (poker/bridge, regular/jumbo) and backs (designs/colors), Copag and Kem offer a large variety of choices, which makes it easy to find a set that fits your needs. FYI, about 95% of poker rooms in the U.S. use bridge size cards with a regular index. For home games, I find a jumbo index adds a little more versatility when it comes to lighting, seating, or eyesight.
PACKAGING: A hard shell plastic case comes standard with all Copag and Kem cards. The Da Vinci and Modiano cards come in a cardboard box with a plastic tray, unless they specifically say it comes with a hard shell case. I like having a hard shell case for the extra protection, taking them to poker night at someone else's house, and because it'll last longer than a cardboard box. I also like the fact that the lid on the Copag hard shell case fits snug, compared to the lose fit of the Kem and Da Vinci plastic cases.
PRICE: I think all the brands above are reasonably priced compared to how long they will last vs paper cards. So you might as well just go with the brand that has the best price. That's another reason I lean towards Copag's over Kem's.
HANDLING: Plastic cards do handle differently than paper cards. As far as plastic cards go, some brands are a little thicker than others. Which may make them fill a little stiffer. Nothing wrong with either one, some people may just have a personal preference. A deck of Copag and Kem's are about the same thickness, while the Modiano decks are about 3 cards thicker, the Da Vinci Ruote are about 2 cards thicker, and the Da Vinci Club Casino are about 4 cards thicker.
AESTHETICS: I had to throw this in here because some people like to nit-pick over the aesthetics of plastic cards. Fonts, colors, face card paint, backs, etc. Why didn't I ever notice this stuff before? Oh yeah, I was busy concentrating on the game :) Unless you're holding the different brands of cards side-by-side, you're really not going to notice the differences...they're just cards.
To sum it all up: What size cards do you want, poker or bridge? What size index do you want regular or jumbo? Good, now search amazon for "Copag", pick a back design/color you like and order it. Or better yet, order two sets and get free shipping :) OK, seriously, you'll be happy with any of the brands I mentioned (unless you get defective cards, grrrr Kem). I just think Copag has a little bit better bang-for-the-buck overall, and that's why I usually recommend them to anyone that asks.

These cards are fantastic! Everyone should play with plastic playing cards, they are so much better than paper! They shuffle very easily, have nice bright colors, and are flexible. Unfortunately they are not immune to being bent, but I doubt any cards are. The plastic case they come in stays closed well and looks good.

All Copag cards are great, it's just a matter of personal preferance whether you like poker size (wider) or bridge size (narrower.) These are very durable and should last for years in a residential environment, even with frequent use.

I run a monthly poker game and really like the cards. To be safe I know put these cards back in the plastic case when I'm done w/ them. I had some KEM cards that warped over time b/c I left them out of my case and my basement is humid and this is where my cards are. I don't know if these will warp if I leave them out of the case in my basement or not. I think these were less expensive than the KEM cards and was the reason why I got them. I also liked that that they were slightly larger than the KEM cards.
Anyway, everyone that plays with these like them and I ended up buying 4 packs each with different colors on the back of the card. I would buy them again.
